Ambrose is a 4th Century Church Father. He served as the Archbishop in Milan. Ambrose baptized Augustine, who deeply influenced Luther.
Below is simple prayer from Ambrose:
"O Lord, who hast mercy upon all, take away from me my sins, and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit. Take away from me the heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh, a heart to love and adore thee, a heart to delight in thee, to follow and to enjoy thee, for Christ’s sake."
It is by the Holy Spirit that we ever accept Jesus Christ and the gift of eternal life. He reveals to us the truth of Scripture, the Spirit leads us into further sanctification, as called children of God.
Kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirt.
What would it look like if God softened your heart? I think the greatest struggle the Church wrestles with is apathy. We become complacent with salvation. We harden ourselves to God call upon our daily lives because we reduce faith to an after-life insurance policy.
God desires so much more. He desires that we'd walk with Him, daily. That He would be the joy of our lives. That He would be our center, our focus, and from Him we would better understand all the gifts He longs to give to us.
How are you resisting His will for your life?
What would it look like if you loved and adored God? If you delighted in Him? How would your life change?
