Be Kind Today

If you've ever listened to The Fundamentals (a podcast I do every week, going through a chapter of the Bible at a time), then you know my friend, Jack.

Jack is a kind person.

It is one of his most admirable qualities. His kindness actually makes a difference in my life.

And when I think about Jack, I think of Colossians 3:12. "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Unlike Jack, I am not a naturally kind person. Like, not at all. Compassion, humility, gentleness, and patience do not come easily to me.

For me, the beauty of this verse is a virtue, like kindness, is not something I need to manufacture by my own power. Instead, God invites me to clothe myself with His kindness. His patience. His gentleness and compassion. His humility.

So, whether you're a "Jack" or a "Jeff", the end result shouldn't change. I'll never be like Jack. But by God's grace, I can be more like Jesus. And I really think that's all Jack is trying to do.

Be kind to one another.

Happy birthday, Jack-O.
